Disabled // Wheelchair // Pushchair
The Museum is accessed via three uneven steps and the Coffee House via four uneven steps.
Our Grade I listing means that we are not permitted to install a ramp to make access to the front of the building easier for people with disabilities/ wheelchairs/ pushchairs.
Our staff and volunteers are always happy to help customers negotiate the steps.
There’s a Disabled Toilet in the south range of The Folly, but direct access for wheelchairs from the Coffee House is difficult because of a narrow doorway between the north and south ranges. We have applied to Historic England for permission to widen the doorway and are hoping for a positive outcome.
Coffee House customers can access the disabled toilet either by entering the south range via the Museum Entrance (three uneven steps) or via a rear entrance.
Staff are always on hand to advise and assist.
Access to the upper floors of the museum is normally via the staircase in the south range. Wheelchair access to the middle floor is possible via a doorway from the rear garden. Please ask staff for assistance.
Regrettably, at this time, it is not possible for wheelchair users to access the top floor.
As part of our ambitious Folly Transformation Programme we are planning projects that will help make The Folly accessible to all.
Our plan is to install a lift that will allow enable internal access to the middle and upper floors.
