What our visitors say

Here are a small selection of independent reviews that have been posted on our Facebook and Trip Advisor pages

Yes, first of all, there's the structure itself, which is so wonderfully over-the-top in style that it's hard not to be taken with it. If you want to discover more about the building, you'll find helpful information within its walls.
... and secondly, there's the friendly staff, volunteers all, who give a friendly welcome and have a nice line in knowledgeable chat about the museum, which they clearly love and have helped to put together and maintain with real enthusiasm.
... and lastly, there's the exhibits, a genuinely eclectic mix, from Great war memories (especially poignant for locals), to local history, both social and geological, to the lovely quirky 'Crafty Knitters of Settle' exhibits, knitted portraits of local architecture. Definitely one to make you smile..."

The museum is in a Grade 1 listed building, built centuries ago as a residence but which over the years had declined into various uses. It has been lovingly restored by local volunteers who formed a charity.
Quite often following restoration the problem is then what to do with the building.
Here it has been turned into a museum of local life. The displays are excellent with a variety of wall mounted as well as others. Plenty of information on local life and world war one.
Definitely worth a visit when in Settle"

"Charming museum in Settle

This is an enchanting museum in the heart of Settle. It's located in The Folly, a building with a fascinating history of its own, and the rooms are full of local treasures. The highlights for me were the descriptions of rural life and the exhibition, by the Krafty Knitters, of Settle shop fronts, all depicted in colourful knitted designs. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and the Folly Cafe next door must be the best cafe in the town."
